Everyday I'm Hustling

We’ve all heard the phrase ‘overnight success,’ where the hot new celebrity seems to burst out of obscurity to take over pop culture. The brutal truth is that there is no such thing, it takes years of blood, sweat, and tears to mold and shape a career in the entertainment industry. For those who bust their butt, like Shane Dean, they know what it takes to make dreams a reality.

Dean might not be a household name just yet, but that doesn’t mean his work ethic has faltered in any way. He has crafted his career from an early age to be the budding action star he is, and he’s not about to let it go. The way he does this is not only by determination, but by bouncing between day jobs and his career. This shift between creativity and normality not only is a necessity as he awaits his future big break, but it helps him stay grounded.

Because SCIENCE

Explosions are a huge part of action films, and the bigger the better. But as our adrenaline peaks, we rarely think of the mechanics behind the what we’re seeing. Science and Action work hand in hand.

Having worked in the film industry for over 30 years, Steve Wolf’s career is spectacular, including work on The Firm, Hustle & Flow, and my personal favorite The Last Boy Scout. His impressive film work isn’t the only interesting job he’s held. He’s also a trained Medic and Rescue Diver and most heroically has even been a pre-school teacher. It’s easy to see a common thread throughout Wolf’s interests: a love of education and adventure.

Manipulating the World with Movement

We have an intention in which we want our life to resemble. Some develop a path after passions are solidified, while others realize their path traveling through opportunities. For Carmichael Simon, martial artist-dancer-motion capture choreographer, his career evolved out of both passion and seizing the moment.

“I do believe in purpose, however it comes with much preparation and timing. I have always been a music lover and movement is the way I expressed myself through my career. I was fortunate to meet a few people who introduced me to opportunities at the right time,” Simon adds.

Back To One:
Reflections from a Beginning Stunt Performer

When you first meet Stephen Koepfer, you can’t tell if you’re intimidated or intrigued. With one year under his belt as a union performer, Koepfer is an up and coming rookie in the stunt community. Yet, during this conversation, he stressed his taking time to get to know those around him and their own experiences. Koepfer is a self described sponge, and every new encounter is a new opportunity for sharing and learning from others.

Roger Yuan: Character Through Action

A well-choreographed action scene in a film is like watching an intrigue dance. These partners move as one, taking turns as the aggressor or defender, creating a symphony of poetic movements. Within the last decade we have seen action sequences fully embracing the complexity of character, which create innovative choreography.

No one understands this more than the incredibly talented actor/choreographer/trainer Roger Yuan, who’s spectacular credits, both in front and behind the camera, have influenced action in outstanding ways.
